Our Story

Granton Youth, established in 2002, provides opportunities and support for young people and their families, living within the North Edinburgh areas of Granton, Wardieburn, Royston, Muirhouse and Pilton. GY engages, through a variety of programmes to encourage participation in positive activities and learning opportunities.

Granton Youth is recognised through its service delivery of open access youth work, outreach, detached streetwork, counselling, volunteering, family support, physical activity, music and schools-based programmes to support and engage local young people and their families, who take an active role in the design of services and programmes we provide.

GY offers a holistic programme to support local young people and their families at GY, in school, in their community and at home. Offering practical, emotional and social support through facilitation, empowerment and challenge – across the various projects and services we offer – to enable young people to reach their true potential.

Our Partnerships

Granton Youth has long established partnership and collaborative working practices with schools, statutory and voluntary organisations including the North Edinburgh Youth Work Collaborative to provide programmes, support and services for local young people.

BWell Together

Granton Youth is a partner in the BWell Together collaborative, alongside partners; Circle, Intercultural Youth, Muirhouse Youth Development Group, Pilton Youth & Children’s Project, Stepping Stones North Edinburgh and The Youth Agency. The collaborative is funded by Scottish Government, to support mental health and wellbeing in North West Edinburgh. As part of the collaborative GY provides counselling support across six local high schools.

Our Strategies

The strategies employed by Granton Youth to meet these objectives include the following:

  • Developing innovative projects and programmes for young people
  • Creating volunteering opportunities for young people
  • Developing relevant partnerships with local and national organisations
  • Providing individual advocacy, support and counselling or those young people who are most vulnerable
  • Increasing opportunities to participate in democratic structures i.e. management committees and youth councils
  • Listening and responding to the views of young people
